Chili Contest!

College football kicks off in less than 3 WEEKS!!!!!!! Obviously, I’m pumped! It’s hard not to be when you’re an Illini fan in Buckeye Country! πŸ˜‰

There’s nothing that screams football season better than chili…and Mr. Prevention and I really like chili! But after being introduced to our friend’s amazing chili recipe a few years ago, we haven’t branched out to try new ones. So that’s where the contest comes in. If you have an amazing chili recipe, an original or simply one you love, please send it to me at I am going to accept the first 12 recipes and aim to try a new one every weekend during football season.

I do ask that the recipes are relatively healthy. So long as the beef is lean and the sodium content isn’t outrageous, there’s not too much unhealthy about chili.

Mr. Prevention and I will take careful notes on each recipe — what we liked, what we didn’t, etc. I will post each week what we thought of that week’s recipe, along with the nutrition facts. At the end of the season, we will choose a winner! That winner can choose any cookie or muffin recipe I’ve made and I will send them some homemade baked goods just in time for the holidays! Last football game is December 3rd, after all!

I will accept entries until I reach 12 recipes.

Question: In your chili do you prefer more meat, beans, vegetables, or something else? What college football team do you root for?

I love meaty, tomato-y chili…but I’m yet to find a chili I don’t love! I can’t wait to try your chili recipes!

What a fun idea! I’d love to submit my chili recipe: pumpkin black bean chili

  2. This is one of the first blogs I ever posted so don’t laugh… lol:

I love that chili, but I have to say I never measure a darn thing when I make chili so it is different every time. But that is one version! πŸ™‚

  3. I love your idea! I love lots of beans in my chili, but this chicken chili is so good and better for your waistline:

  4. Chili with meat and no beans! I eat around the beans :). I’m a Big Ten fan – but Purdue and Iowa (where my family attended). I’m not too die hard for college ball though. I guess I’m also a TX A&M fan now too. My brother starts grad classes this month :).

  5. Go MIZZOU! he he he… πŸ™‚

I can’t believe college football is almost here- I hope you’re ready for the rivalry game in a couple weeks!

  6. Ugh, football season. I’m so not a fan but my husband goes kinda crazy for it.

I just started liking chili this past year. I’m not too picky when it comes to ingredients, but I hate, hate, hate onions so my dream is to find a restaurant whose chili isn’t littered with the things. πŸ™‚

  7. Will you accept vegetarian entries? If so, here’s mine: πŸ™‚

  8. I love, love, love veggies in my chili!

  9. Oh, love the chili challenge! πŸ™‚ I don’t have a killer recipe (Hubbs does…but it’s all off the top of his head), so I look forward to trying the ones you post about!

  10. Mo

We always have kitchen sink chili in my house. We throw in whatever looks good and let it cook. πŸ˜‰ So, no recipe to share. But I look forward to seeing the recipes!

  11. Leah @ Why Deprive?

This is such an awesome idea! I wish I had a chili recipe, Ive never even made it before.

  12. What a yummy contest! I need to get the recipe from my mom but I have a tasty one I’ll be sending you.

  13. Beans! I love beans. Usually I do beans and soy crumbles. I just toss mine together, but if I can think of an actual recipe for this, I will let you know.

  14. I’m eating chili as I’m writing this! I like to bake tortilla chips and make chili nachos with my chili. Yummm. I’ve never put the recipe down on paper, but I’ll see if I can put something together.

I don’t watch college football, so… Go Steelers!

  15. I’ve got to say, I love the tomato and meat as well!

Minnesota Golden Gophers ALL THE WAY! I am so excited for football season to start.

  16. I am a huge chili fan, and prefer both meat & beans for a hearty yet healthy version. I emailed you my recipe for White Chicken Chili, which I recently made for about 20 people… and it was a big hit!

If others want to check it out, here’s the link:

  17. Yay for college football!!! I am smiling just thinking about it and can’t wait for it to start. I went to WVU so Go Mountaineers!!!

I grew up eating chili with beef but now when I make it like to make it with beans and beef. There are some things I refuse to substitute beef in and chili is one of them. I can’t wait to break out the crock pot and get to cooking some πŸ™‚

  18. I love chili and this sounds like such a fun challenge! I can’t wait to see all the recipes you try!

  19. A while back, I tried a vegetarian chili. It had all kinds of different beans in it. It was so flavorful, even without the meat.
I hate to say, I am not a huge football fan. I do like to go to the games just for the fun of it though!
