close call and my new kitchen!

Goooooood morning! πŸ˜€

If you’re not so keen on the idea of work today, here’s a story about my yesterday morning that should cheer anyone in a work funk up! It was my second day at the clinic and I had 8am rounds with the doctor. I was getting ready to leave for the morning and decided that I should look for some lab books & my calculator in the garage. Lily and I go out to dig through boxes of stuff that were in my old office. The door closes behind us. We are locked out. I jet to the back thinking the sliding glass door on the deck might be open. Nope. Darn it! The time was 7:30am. The time to get to work is 30 minutes. Result: LATE for rounds. On day 2. Grreeeat.

So there I was, with Lily, locked out, without a phone….in the humid, muggy morning sun. My poor neighbor answered the door, flustered, in her bath robe. I asked to use her phone and luckily Mr. Prevention picked up. I thanked her and left to wait for Mr. P to come from work, a 30 minute commute back home. So, I got to work at 8:34am just as the doctor was rolling in, and so I wasn’t late for rounds. Talk about a close call….! Mr. Prevention saved the day! πŸ˜€

Since Mr. Prevention insisted on Buffalo Wild Wings for dinner last night (I would’ve insisted otherwise had he not rescued me from my lockout!), my delicious mushroom risotto will be featured later in the week. I am dying to try this recipe!

And I did want to show you guys my new kitchen!

It’s not quite as big as my kitchen in Tulsa (by a long shot), and I’ll miss my granite counter tops…but I do love having an island, a window over the kitch sink, and 42″ cabinets. Perks to both, but I’m pretty happy with my new kitchen πŸ˜€

Question: What’s your #1 criteria in your “dream kitchen”?

Happy Hump Day,

  1. Yay for Mr. Prevention for saving the day! I’m so glad everything worked out well!

Your new kitchen is GORGEOUS!!! I’ve never had an island before, so it’s my current kitchen dream… I’m in awe of all your glorious island counter space! πŸ™‚

  2. Oh how annoying!! I would have freaked out if I was late after the second day, because that’s what I DO! Good for you for staying calm, because everything turned out just fine anyway! MArk to the rescue! Glad everything worked out. I LOVE your kitchen, by the way. It’s much bigger than ours! I guess that’s what we get for moving to UA…..

Still up for meeting up on Friday?? We can do dinner and drinks, but I want to look at the Dispatch tomorrow to see if anything else is going on (the weekender comes out on THursdays).

    Have a great one!

  3. I used to lock myself out all the time – it was terrible and my husband works an hour away!

  4. What a stressful morning. I hate when things like that happen. Hopefully the rest of the day wasn’t stressful from that. Bad mornings always seem to carry over into the rest of my day.

  5. Aww, that’s a total knight in shining armor story! Not a great way to start the day but at least it worked out all right with the doctor being late too, lol! Your new kitchen is beatiful, I love that window over the sink!

  6. Whew, glad everything worked out!!

    I LOVE your new kitchen!!!

  7. I hate it when I lock myself out! I’m the queen of locking my keys in the car!

Love your new kitchen! Mr. P totally deserved his wings πŸ™‚

  8. Yay for Mr. P!! Your kitchen is awesome – probably about 5 times the size of our tiny Boston apartment kitchen. I love the island, stainless steel appliances, and the natural light streaming in from the window.

When we buy a house, I will be very picky about the kitchen, but my #1 must-have is enough floor and counter space! My husband and I are constantly bumping into each other as it is now, and I barely have enough clear counter space to comfortably prepare a meal. Sometimes I have to carry-over prep work into the dining room ;). Gotta love city living!

  9. I’d have been hyperventilating. Good thing your husband works close to home! I love you stainless steel appliances, and the island. My dream kitchen will have a gas stove, not the electric kind my apartment has.

  10. What a close call! Glad Mr. P was there to save the day:D

  11. Glad you didn’t get locked out for too long!

I like the island in the kitchen.

  12. I adore islands like that! I’ll definitely insist on having one someday… lol

Sorry about getting locked out- that’s the worst! But you still made it in the nick of time! πŸ™‚

  13. love the kitchen! installing granite is an easy fix. we remodeled our own kitchen completely and love the result!

  14. Oh my goodness, that totally sounds like something that would happen to me!! Good thing we have sweetie pie husbands to save the day!! πŸ™‚ Love your kitchen! I wish we had an island. I also wish the kitchen connected to the living room. I blame not liking to cook on that!! πŸ˜‰

  15. How stressful to be locked out right before you have to be at work! I’ve done that before too, except it was in the middle of winter!
Great kitchen!!!! It’s nice and open πŸ™‚
I dream of a big pantry!!!

  16. Counter space is most important to me. It’s a good think you have that island because counter space could be a problem otherwise.

I need a big space to need my dough!

  17. Oh no! I hate getting locked out! Last month I got locked out barefoot and sweaty after a long run in heat! Not fun!

Your kitchen is beautiful!! I love the natural light!

  18. Yeah close call! it worked out nicely ;). A bigger kitchen is a must in our next house for sure.

  19. Huge island to cook on, we have a great kitchen now and I love having the space!

  20. Tes

Once I forgot the key and locked out and I had stomach pain… it was the worst!
Wow nicole your kitchen looks so beautiful! My dream kitchen would be an outdoor cooking space, probably sourounded by the garden and bamboo trees πŸ™‚

  21. I love your kitchen-it’s beautiful!

  22. OMG – I WANT your kitchen ! So jealous!I want an Island soooo bad …and counter space – there MUST be counter space…

    …and clean with modern appliances…:(

  23. Not sure if this is my #1 criterion, but I definitely want the cabinets below the counter to have drawers that pull out with the pots and pans. I hate having to bend/crouch/sort through stuff.. to find the correct pot or pan!

  24. Wow, that was a close call! So glad Mr. Prevention could save the day!

I really like your new kitchen! My current one is so small and cramped, with zero counter space. I can’t wait to move!

  25. I am so glad you are liking your new job and getting settled!! I love your kitchen – especially the appliances! I have black, but if I was able to choose, I’d definitely choose stainless steel. πŸ™‚ And I would LOVE to have an island one day!

Hmmm…..I guess my number one criteria would be space, but not just square feet – counter space! It’s one of those things you don’t think about until you have lots of cooking to do…

  26. The number one thing I want in my “dream” kitchen is a dishwasher. We are living in a rental right now and it has no dishwasher. I feel like I am always washing dishes and I hate to see dishes sitting out on the counter in the drying rack.

So glad Mr. P was able to save the day for you and it is nice how life works sometimes with the Dr. being late also.

    Have a great Wednesday!

  27. Getting locked out sucks! Your kitchen still beats my kitchen with is tiny and has no decent workflow.

  28. Someone to cook and clean in it ?? πŸ™‚

Glad your bad morning turned out okay!

  29. Wow! I love your kitchen! Especially the island. I would need lots of counter space in my ideal kitchen.

Yikes! Happy you made it in right before the doc arrived!

  30. Leah @ Why Deprive?

I LOVE your kitchen!! Im so jealous of all the cupboards!

I’ve locked myself out before, but it was after work. And it wasnt so much locking myself out as it was dropping my keys someplace where it was nearly impossible to get them out. In the rain. It sucks!! Now I keep a spare set in my purse at all times just in case! lol

  31. Whew, that was a close call. That is the good thing about doctors some times. That is a nice kitchen, but I know how hard it is to downgrade in size. Our new kitchen is tiny despite this being a huge house. My must have is probably an island (because we like to do big puzzles so this makes a great space…and in my last two kitchens we had massive counter space elsewhere). My second must is a ton of cabinet space, especially now after the wedding last year.

  32. I have never locked myself out of my apt but I used to lock myself out of the car atleast once a month, to the point that I had to keep a spare key in my wallet lol

I am jealous of your kitchen! Actually I am jealous of anyone that has a kitchen lol

  33. That was a close call! Good thing dr’s are always late haha

  34. Yes, a VERY close call!

And I LOVE your kitchen so much!! I’d love to have a super fancy refrigerator in my kitchen :-).

  35. I love your kitchen! I really want a bigger one but we have other priorities at this moment. A dream kitchen in my house would be a prep island, equipped with separate sink for food prep. I would also like a grill top. I guess that is more than one thing.

    Mr. P sounds like a keeper πŸ™‚

  36. You got a very beautiful kitchen…

  37. My #1 criteria is someone to clean it….funny how I’ve never found one with that feature πŸ™‚ I’ve locked myself out before and broke in to get it again πŸ™‚
